Kurt Negaard

Richmond Native, Real Estate Professional and Community Leader

   

Kurt Negaard is a lifelong resident of Richmond, VA, having grown up on Richmond’s Southside in Bon Air. He attended Bon Air Elementary, Robious Junior High, and was a member of Monacan High School’s first graduating class in 1981. Kurt entered the real estate profession in 1988 after making connections with a few key mentors in the industry. He worked as a licensed agent until June of 1996, when he began his managerial career. He has managed for Long & Foster,  East West Partners, and Napier Realtors ERA. Kurt has recently made the move to RE/MAX Commonwealth as a Managing Broker/owner.

 Throughout his career, Kurt has placed a high priority on furthering his real estate education and serving both the professional real estate and civic communities. Integritytrust and dedicated leadership characterize his involvement in all of these arenas.

 

Kurt is a graduate of the National Association of Realtors’ Realtor Institute (GRI) and has also attained the Accredited Buyer Representative (ABR) and Certified Residential Specialist (CRS) designations. He served as President of the Richmond Association of Realtors in 2004 and also served concurrently on the Virginia Association of Realtors (VAR) Policy Board from 2003 through 2005.

 

Kurt has received numerous awards for professional achievement on the local and state levels, most recently being recognized by the Virginia Association of Realtors (VAR) as 2007 Manager of the Year and Richmond Association of Realtors (RAR) as 2006 Realtor of the Year. He was selected as the VAR Sales Associate of the Year in 2003, and he received the C. Porter Vaughan Outstanding Service Award from the RAR in 1995. Kurt has been a member of the RAR Honor Society every year since 1990 and the VAR Honor Society since 2003.

Kurt's Community Involvement

On a personal level, Kurt has been performing music professionally since the age of five, following in the footsteps of his father, who is also a professional singer. Kurt has been a member of many of his church choirs and has enjoyed performing Handel’s Messiah at his church in Bon Air with his father every Christmas. After majoring in Vocal Performance/Studio at James Madison University, he traveled with his band The Press as lead vocalist for eight years. As the lead singer of his current band, Flat Elvis, Kurt enjoys sharing his love of a variety of musical genres with local Richmond audiences.

Community Leadership

Kurt has also been active in local theater for many years. He has fond memories of performing at the old Barksdale Theatre in Hanover, among others, as a child. He has also acted in productions at Richmond’s Barn Dinner Theater, Virginia Museum Theater, Swift Creek Mill Playhouse, and Dogwood Dell.

 

Kurt’s commitment to the Richmond community has led him to assume leadership roles in a number of the organizations in which he is involved. He has been on the Barksdale Theatre Board of Trustees since 2002, and served as their President in 2006. Kurt has also been an active supporter of the Manchester YMCA for many years and was a member of their Board of Directors for eight years.

  On March 27, 2007, Kurt was 'arrested' by Muscular Dystrophy Association and raised over $3,000 through the support of his clients, colleagues, friends and family to help the MDA continue its research to find cures and provide services for Richmond area families affected by 43 neuromuscular diseases.
